Park It

Yesterday I wandered around part of Central Park.  It. Was. Hot.  In fact, it has been super steamy in the city with record highs.  There's rain today; hopefully that will cut some of the heat out of the air for a little bit.

The reservoir; look at the skyline!

Romeo and Juliet outside of the Delacorte Theater.

The Great Lawn.  It's great.

Belvedere Castle from far away.

From up close.

And the view from it.

I dunno which Polish king this is, but he means business with those swords!

After cooling off and cleaning up, I went to a small independently produced play last night.  It was called Staying Afloat and was about two women and a polar bear stranded in the ocean on a floating ice block.  It was interesting.

I have found that now that I've been in the city for a month I am frequenting the same places and taking the same routes everyday.  I definitely have a routine down pat.  I try to get out to a new place or two every weekend, but I thought you might like to see what average days are like for me?  So I'll start posting pictures of my favorite markets and bodegas, the subway, the truck where I get coffee for breakfast and the one with dumplings for lunch.  And I love to go to Union Square and Chelsea Market.  I'll find somewhere fun to go tomorrow and Monday.  Today is kind of rainy and yuck, so I'll knock out my laundry and grocery shopping.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Beach Bum

I spent this weekend in East Hampton.  I did as little as possible!  It was a wonderful break from the heat and humidity, the dirt and noise of the city.

Poolside.

Laid back.

I love the beach!!

Today I started out at Rockefeller Plaza.  I didn't see Tina Fey, but I did find the Lego Store.  After that I went to FAO Swartz!

I was looking for Rockettes.

The observation deck cost $21 this tiger didn't have.

Oh man...

Looks familiar?

This guy is guarding...

Lego New York!

Look who I ran into!!

I could have stayed here forever.

One of these tigers is doing his own thing.  One of these tigers doesn't belong.

Build. Your. Own. Custom. Muppet.

They're like Santa's elves making your new Muppet friend.

Chopsticks!

It was a long hot day with lots and lots of walking.  I am tuckered out!  Nighty-night, friends.

Shake Your Money Maker

Today I went to Wall Street.  There were a couple of other stops along the way, including Trinity Church, Bowling Green, and Battery Park.

Trinity Church at the head of Wall Street.

I just missed the Queen.  By a few years.

I'm guessing you have to be important to be buried inside the church.

Here I am...

on this!  Another beautiful OLD graveyard at Trinity.

They'll exchange stocks if you've got 'em.

Good old Georgie W.

Money, money, money, money...

Breakfast time!

Snort! Stamp! Snort!

The fountain at Bowling Green.

Here's the former U.S. Customs House.  Now the Museum for the American Indian.

That's a saddle.  Yikes!

Tatonka!

That's all beaded with the tiniest seed beads!  Beautiful.

The great lady from Battery Park.

A memorial for immigrants coming to America through New York.

Of course...more adventures to come!

About Last Night...Again

Another six (seven) words about last night:

Merchant of Venice.  With AL PACINO.  Amazing.

It was celebrity city last night.  I saw Bette Midler, Josh Lucas, Murphy Brown (some people call her Candace Bergen...I don't), Edie Falco, Lorraine Bracco, James Gandolfini, Lucy Lui, Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts, Kate Walsh, Sam Waterston, Suzan-Lori Parks, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Duff, that guy from that show, what's-his-name, the brother who got dumped on Legends of the Fall (I think), Peter Dinklage, and...and...oh gosh there were so many people!  And that's not counting the celebrities I actually met and said hello to, including Jesse L. Martin, Lily Rabe, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Nyambi Nyambi.

Phew.  Overload.

Mermaids on Parade

On Saturday, I went to Coney Island for the mermaid parade.  It was like nothing I've ever seen!  There were mer-people and people-people everywhere.  I never made it over to the rides, but I made sure to get a Nathan's hotdog!

The CROWDED beach.

HOT DOGS!!!

Woo hoo!  Can't wait to ride it.

The Wonder Wheel.  It's a wheel of wonder.

That's a lot of people.  I almost got stepped on!

My new mer-friends.

I prefer a yellow submarine.

You had your average mermaids...

your baby mermaids...

some choreographed mermaids...

and chumdog millionare mermaids.

Hello Kitty mermaids...?

Mermaids with props...

 and fishies...

and jellyfishies, too.

I'm gonna go back to Coney Island on a quieter day so I can ride all of the rides and eat more hot dogs!
