Spotty

Hi, friends!  Sorry I haven't posted in a while.  My internet availability has been very spotty in my dorm room.  But I think I'm back in business, so let me catch you up since last time...

I went to free Friday at the Museum of Modern Art.  It was so crowded!  I think I missed some nice exhibits, but since it's free, I can always try to go back.  I did get to see a really beautiful Picasso exhibit.

I had lunch in Chinatown again and shopped at some of the fruit carts.  I also walked up through Little Italy.  It was a lot like Chinatown only instead of dumplings and sesame buns there were cannolis and gelato.

I went to a meeting at Columbus Circle and got some nice pictures.  It's on the southern edge of Central Park so after lunch I went into the park to see more areas than last time.

This past Friday I went to watch the Goonies on the flight deck of the Intrepid.  We got rained out before the movie even started, but not before I got some great shots of the planes.

And finally, today I took the Staten Island Ferry, which is free, y'all, and got some much better pictures of the Statue of Liberty.  I considered paying for the tour of her, but the line wrapped around the park twice!  There was no wait for the ferry.  Easy decision!!

Check out all of the pictures I took.

It's a wishing tree.

I love this boat anemone.

She's beautiful.

This hay smelled so sweet.  The whole room smelled like fresh air.

The fruit carts in Chinatown have the wildest fruits!

Here's Chris again, in Central Park this time.

The famous Boathouse.

Cool little remote control boats.

ALICE!

Usually Alice is covered with kids and people taking pictures, but this day was so hot and humid that I was the only soul brave enough to trudge through the park to hang out on her.

That sky looks beautiful.  In 30 minutes, it will be black and threatening.

Sweet Stuff

I made a few stops after work today.  First I went to Macy's at Herald Square.  It was BUSY and CROWDED.  Nothing unusual for New York I suppose.  Then I went to the Upper East Side to meet some friends for dinner and desert at Serendipity 3, the restaurant made famous in the movie Serendipity and is now famous for their frozen hot chocolates.  I got there early, so I made a pit stop in Dylan's Candy Bar.  Man oh man, it was like being at Willy Wonka's factory.  Three stories of every awesome candy goodness you can imagine.  I got some peanut butter cup popcorn.  It's life changing.

Outside of Macy's.

The cool (and slightly scary) old wooden escalator at Macy's.

Dylan's Candy Bar.

It was a colorful, candy-ful, music and happiness extravaganza.

It was difficult narrowing down my selection.  I'll just have to go back...

Wait times were up to an hour and 45 minutes when I got here.  Good thing I had reservations!

They sell quirky stuff in their lobby.

Sharing a frozen hot chocolate with a friend.  It lived up to the hype!

I got to take my friends on their first subway ride after dinner.  I've only been here for six weeks, and already I'm the wise old New Yorker!

Do You Sea What I Sea?

Yesterday there was a break in the sprinkles so instead of laundry, I went exploring!  I wandered down to the South Street Seaport.  It's full of restaurants and shops, and you can walk out on Pier 17 to see the water taxis and sailboats.  There's a beautiful view of Brooklyn from the Pier.  After that I went to watch roller derby!  The Gotham City Roller Girls are tough ladies, and the bout between the Brooklyn Bombshells and the Queens of Pain was hard fought.  The Queens' Suzy Hotrod is AMAZING.  Best jammer I've seen.  It helps that her pack had her back the entire time and helped create holes for her to fight through.  What a great day!

I want to play!

Ew ew ew ew!

Long line of restaurants and shops.

Lots of beautiful sailboats.

Inside is a huge mall.  Outside are restaurants that overlook the water.

I walked across that bridge!

Nothing like sand between your toes while you enjoy a hot dog!

A nice view of Brooklyn.

Anything you want to eat...they have a truck for that!

DERBY!  See #55 down there?  That's Suzy Hotrod.  She's my new hero.

The sold out crowd filing in during warm-ups.

There's Suzy!
